Doug Emhoff (spouse of Kamala Harris) was just removed by the Trump administration from the US Holocaust Memorial Council, as DEI and “woke.” First are his comments after being dismissed, then my question:
“Today, I was informed of my removal from the United States Holocaust Memorial Council.
“Let me be clear: Holocaust remembrance and education should never be politicized. To turn one of the worst atrocities in history into a wedge issue is dangerous — and it dishonors the memory of 6 million Jews murdered by Nazis that this museum was created to preserve.
“No divisive political decision will ever shake my commitment to Holocaust remembrance and education or to combating hate and anti-Semitism. I will continue to speak out, to educate, and to fight hate in all its forms — because silence is never an option.
“Douglas Emhoff”
I served on an Interfaith, inter-college committee for years under the auspices of the Dr. David and Joan Thaler Holocaust Memorial Fund, (THMF) established in 1995. We worked together to bring Holocaust survivors to Cedar Rapids and to area campuses. Many speakers came from the National Holocaust Museum. Their work and their support are essential to preserve our national moral compass. Doug Emhoff’s removal is an affront to all Americans’ moral compass. It is also an indication of colossal ignorance.
So as a voter, how is this stunning removal “fighting anti-Semitism?”
