Diane Ashby
Diane Ashby
Cedar Rapids
Diane Ashby died peacefully at her home in Sarasota on May 2, 2025 after a long battle with dementia. She is now able to reunite with her parents and brother in Heaven. She requested a private family service and burial at a later date, and will be honored by her family.
Diane attended Regis High School, Mount Mercy College, and University of Iowa, ultimately graduating with a master’s degree in elementary education. She taught 2nd and 3rd grades at Indian Creek Elementary School (Linn Mar District). Professionally, she most valued teaching children to read because she believed if a child can read then they can do anything in life! She was an avid reader herself, especially mysteries by Ellery Queen and Agatha Christie. She married Robert (Bongo) Ashby in 1975, and was a loving mother to her son Erik. She also enjoyed art, music & theater, boating at Lake McBride, traveling, and was an Iowa Hawkeyes fan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Florence (The B) and Paul Feldhaus, and brother John Feldhaus. She is survived by her husband Robert (Bongo), son Erik and his wife Merima, and grandchildren Leo and Sami, as well as her sisters Ellen, Carol, and Mary and their families.
Diane's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all her caregivers at Brookdale Phillippi Creek in Sarasota for the wonderful love, care, and attention they offered her for the past 3 years. Should you care to send a memorial in Diane's name, please consider either Mount Mercy University or the U of I Memorial Hospital Glaucoma Center.
