Dorothy Marie Musel, 86, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Prairie Hill Assisted Living, Independence. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2025, St. Patrick Catholic Church by Rev. Dennis Miller. Burial: 2 p.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelsea. A vigil service will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Teahen Funeral Home. Those unable to attend the vigil service may visit with the family from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home and after 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.
Dorothy is survived by her five daughters, Danita (Brad) Beier of Austin, TX, Diane (Roger) Wilson of Independence, IA, Deborah (Andy) Adams of Lakewood, CA, Denise Anderson of Eau Claire, WI, and Rosanne (Allan) Pape of Austin, TX; son, Darin (Mary) Musel of Maquoketa, IA; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Nurre and Charlene Parks, both of Glendale, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death in 2011 by her husband of 52 years, Ronald; infant son, Allen; her parents; her in-laws; and her brother-in-law.
Dorothy was born on September 26, 1938, in Tama County, the daughter of Emil and Libbie Vratisovsky Behaunek. She attended St. Joseph Elementary School, Chelsea, and graduated from Notre Dame Academy, Omaha, NE. Dorothy married Ronald Musel on January 17, 1959, in Chelsea. She was a wonderful housewife and mother, and worked at Armstrong’s department store and at the Meth-Wick Community. Dorothy was a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Dorothy enjoyed gardening and caring for her flowers. She was also fond of sewing, crocheting, and traveling. Dorothy’s greatest love was taking care of her beloved family, whom she cherished deeply. She will be profoundly missed.
Memorials may be directed to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital or The Notre Dame Sisters of Omaha.
