Gordon Leo Ruegsegger, 81, of Fairfax, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, May 12, 2025, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Brosh Chapel. The family requests everyone to wear bib overalls in support of Gordon. Private family inurnment will be in Hala Cemetery at a later date.
Gordon was born on October 6, 1943, in Wellman, the son of Leo and Beth (Miller) Ruegsegger. He graduated from Mid-Prairie Community School, in 1962. In 1963, he began working at Allis-Chalmers and P&H Harnischfeger where he was employed for over 24 years. Gordy served in the United States Army National Guard from 1964-1970 in Iowa City. He was united in marriage to Donna Dubishar in May 1966; they were later divorced, but have remained close friends. After P&H closed, he worked at Linn County Redi-Mix and LL Pelling. Gordy was a long-time volunteer for the Swisher Fire Department. He liked building things out of iron as well as raising hogs and calves. After retiring, Gordy started restoring tractors and going on tractor rides.
Gordon is survived by his children Frank (Sarah) Ruegsegger and Connie (Brian) Melsha; four grandchildren Shanea (Joe) Curtin, Shelby (Shawn) Nemec, Rhett Patzner, Mollie Patzner (Tanner); four great-grandchildren Kole, Brynlee, Ainslee, Kipton; his sister Bonnie (Bill) Swift; his nieces and nephews; and friend Donna.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Marlo Ruegsegger.
In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be directed to the Swisher and or the Fairfax Fire Departments in his name.
