John Scott, 76, of Solon, Iowa, passed away on May 3, 2025 at home surrounded by family and love.
He was born in 1948 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Donald and Bee Scott. He graduated from Lewis Central with the class of 1966. After a semester at Northwest Missouri State, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and proudly served in Vietnam from 1968-1970.
He married Cindy Fischer in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and they shared 54 years together.
He was transferred in 1980 to Eastern Iowa with Northwestern Bell phone company and guaranteed 2 years in the area. It became home where they raised their children and remained.
John is survived by his spouse, Cindy, sons Don (Ginny) Scott, Corey (Sonja) Scott, Travis (Brenda) Scott and daughter, Andrea Scott (Nate Johnson), 14 grandchildren, and sister Jean Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents Don and Bee Scott, grandparents Walter and Mabel Scott and John and Helen Rapalje.
He requested his body be deeded to the University of Iowa. The family will host a Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at the Solon American Legion from 2-5 p.m. The family will have a private graveside service with military honors.
The family requests no memorial gifts. If desired, expressions of sympathy may be made with donations in his name to the American Legion Stinocher Post 460 where he served as Commander, the Solon Fire Department who responded to our medical emergency or Essence of Life Hospice in Amana who provided loving care to the entire family. Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
