Lorenz “Larry” Sanders, 88, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Friday, May 2, 2025, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa. Visitation: 4 – 6 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2025, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Larry was born April 21, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, the son of George and Earmel (Grisham) Sanders. He graduated from Wilson High School and served his country honorably in the United States Navy. On April 22, 1958, Larry was united in marriage to Norma Brown. He worked for ADT. Larry loved fishing and hunting, especially racoons and pheasants with his hunting dogs. He had a treasure chest of horrible dad jokes, and he enjoyed going to Hawkeye games and basketball games with Deb and Jim. Larry was a people person with a continuous open-door policy for anyone and everyone. He never met a stranger. Larry loved roller skating, where he met the love of his life, Norma. His favorite hobby was collecting items from garage sales.
Survivors include his children, Deb (Tom) Peifer, Theresa Tatro, and Brenda (Steve) Thune; grandchildren, Danielle (Adam) Kirkpatrick, Lisa (Dusty) Tatro, Kimberly Tatro, Christine (Danny) Tatro, Zackery (Alexis) Thune, Zoey (Jake) Thune; great-grandchildren, Nolan, Evyn, Hayden, Joshua, JaeLynn, Damian, Trayten, Kenna, Landen, Naishen, Sapphire, Kaidyn, and Kayla; and sister, Dolores LaGrange.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Sanders; his parents, George and Earmel; and son-in-law, Edward Tatro, Jr.
