Carolyn King passed away peacefully at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids on April 30, 2025. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with visitation to begin at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial: Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery, Davenport, Iowa.
She was born on January 24, 1943, in Clinton, Iowa, to Clarence and Inez (Merrick) Carter. The family later moved to Wheatland, where Carolyn graduated from Wheatland High School in 1961. She received a degree in X-Ray Technology from the University of Iowa in 1963 and worked as an x-ray technician for several years before choosing to be a stay-at-home mother and homemaker.
Carolyn was a devoted follower of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved reading her Bible and spreading the Gospel. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her children, working in her flower garden, and bird watching.
Carolyn married Donald Eckert in Lincoln, Illinois in 1964, and they had three children: David (Colleen) Eckert, Londa Beaber, and Angela (Troy) Fischer. After Donald’s passing in 2003,
Carolyn married William King of Cedar Rapids in 2008.
She is survived by her husband, William; her three children; her sister, Nancy (Wes) Fox; five stepchildren; four grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three cousins; and many nieces and nephews.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jack, and her first husband, Donald.
Memorials may be directed to the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha, Iowa in Carolyn’s honor.
