IOWA CITY — The Iowa City Fire Department responded to a fire Thursday evening on the third floor of the Johnson County Courthouse.
The department was called to the courthouse, 417 S. Clinton St., in Iowa City, at about 7:45 p.m. when the fire alarms in the building went off, according to a news release from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, and the cause is now under investigation by the fire department and the sheriff’s office. The courthouse remained open Friday for normal operations.
According to court administration, the fire was confined to a small area on the third floor, and did not affect any court hearings Friday.
