The information technology director for Clayton County was arrested Wednesday in Fayette County on charges that he had almost 5,000 pictures and videos of child pornography on his laptop.
Robert William Kurdelmeyer, 63, of Clermont, is charged with five counts of possessing a depiction of a minor in a sex act.
According to a criminal complaint, Kurdelmeyer’s neighbor found a laptop Sept. 9, 2024, in the street in front of Kurdelmeyer’s home. Child pornography was discovered on the laptop while it was being examined to attempt to identify its owner.
Law enforcement, acting on a search warrant, did a full examination of the laptop and found about 4,000 pictures and about 700 videos of children in various sexual situations. There also were several videos of Kurdelmeyer involved in sex acts with a rubber sex doll that resembled a young female. Investigators also found various documents with Kurdelmeyer’s name on them, showing that the laptop belonged to him, the complaint states.
A warrant was issued for Kurdelmeyer’s arrest Tuesday and he was taken into custody Wednesday. He had his initial appearance in court Wednesday and was being held in the Fayette County Jail on a $20,000 bail.
The Clayton County Board of Supervisors, in a meeting Thursday afternoon, voted to terminate Kurdelmeyer from his position with the county effective immediately, and to begin advertising to hire a new IT director.
