CEDAR RAPIDS — Ongoing construction work on 42nd Street NE will close a portion of the road to through traffic beginning Thursday, and lasting approximately 10 weeks.
The closure will stretch from east of River Ridge Road, to west of Blue Jay Drive. Local access to Wells Fargo will be maintained, and Twin Pines Golf Course will remain open.
The arrangement is expected to be in place until July 3.
A detour will direct drivers to use Edgewood Road, Glass Road and Blue Jay Drive.
Lane reductions that are currently set up between Edgewood Road and River Ridge Road will remain in place until the first week of June.
The $4.3 million project includes:
- Pavement patching from Edgewood Road to River Ridge Drive;
- Replacement of pavement from River Ridge Drive to Pine View Drive
- New storm sewer and water main
- Sanitary sewer replacement
- Replacement of sidewalks, ADA curb ramps and crossings added at side roads.
This year’s project focuses on a stretch of 42nd Street from east of Edgewood Road NE to just east of Pine View Drive NE. In 2026, work will move east, from Pine View Drive NE to Wenig Road NE.
