James A. “Jim” Koopmann, 72, of Dyersville, Iowa passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on April 10, 2025 at University of Iowa Hospitals.
Jim was born on December 24, 1952 to Alfred “Fritz” and Evelyn “Pearl” (Kruse) Koopmann.
After graduating from Beckman High School, he began his career of 48 years with BARD Materials. He married the love of his life and best friend Doris Quint on September 22, 1979. A devoted and proud father, Jim treasured time with his children, grandkids and friends. He proudly served his community as a member of the Dyersville Fire Department for 25 years. Jim logged countless country miles with BARD and later found joy in revisiting those familiar roads seeing how they changed. He and Doris shared a love for day trips, always eager to explore new places and discover the occasional new restaurant. Koopy’s unforgettable laugh continues to echo in the hearts of all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Doris Koopmann; his children: Susan (John) Barrett of North Liberty, and Ryan (Lynnette) Koopmann of Dyersville; five adored grandchildren: Austin and Grace Barrett, and Reese, Ronan and Rhett Koopmann; siblings: Tony (Eldora) Koopmann, Joyce (Mark) Westoff; in-laws: Sandy Koopmann, Joann (Richard) Hartman, Donna (George) Puffett, Janet (Ken) Burns, Julie (Jim) Kennedy; and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Clarence and Eleanor (Manternach) Quint, siblings Donald Koopmann and Mary (Lloyd) Heims.
His family would like to say a special thank-you to all of the medical professionals who cared for Jim through his battle with cancer; especially Dr. Amy Winsky, Ashley Straka, and the University of Iowa Oncology and Palliative Care teams.
