Cedar Rapids
Marilyn J. Philipp, 95, died after a brief illness Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids surrounded by her family.
Marilyn was born on December 4, 1929, in Des Moines, the daughter of Max and Mabel Morgan. The family later relocated to Cedar Rapids, where Marilyn graduated from McKinley High School. She married Clement J. Philipp on August 28, 1948, at St. Patrick’s Church in Cedar Rapids. Marilyn worked for Collins Radio Company and the Hamilton Company in Cedar Rapids before founding ATC, Inc., with her husband and sons. The company has been in operation since 1978 in southwest Cedar Rapids. Marilyn worked there for 47 years.
Throughout her life, Marilyn zestfully pursued a wide variety of activities outside of work: bowling leagues, Pilates classes, tap dance, golf instruction, card nights, visiting casinos, meeting with her book club friends, and traveling. In the 2000s, she traveled in the United States to New York and California and points in between, in Europe to the Netherlands, France, England, and Italy, and in Africa to Nigeria and South Africa.
She loved getting together with her children, their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Iowa, Wisconsin, Oregon, Texas, and Arizona whenever she could. She was always interested in hearing about their work, their schooling, and their other pursuits.
Marilyn is survived by her children and their spouses: John and Jodi Philipp of Chelsea, Timothy Philipp of Solon, Lynn and Dan Feuerbach of Spring, Texas, Morgan and Phiona Philipp of Solon, Todd and Jody Philipp of Solon, and Sean Philipp and Shawn McDonnell of Cedar Rapids, daughter-in-law Janice Philipp of Ely, twenty-four grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law Wallace and Sirgute Morgan of Sacramento, California, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Clement J. Philipp, son Clement Michael Philipp, daughter-in-law Shirley Philipp, her parents Max and Mabel Morgan, and her brother James Morgan.
To all who knew her, Marilyn was a fun-loving, witty, sweet, no-nonsense woman. Her generosity, playful nature, beautiful smile, and frequent proclamation that everything is marvy will be greatly missed. For her family, she will always be our North Star guiding us with her strength and independence.
A Memorial service for Marilyn will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, 211 21st Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids. A luncheon in the fellowship hall will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Ludmilas church in Memory of Marilyn Philipp.
