Darleen Audrey Baty-Brokens, 97, of Robins, Iowa, formerly of Coggon, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Emery Place in Robins. In agreement with her wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no services held at this time. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Troy Mills Cemetery, in Troy Mills, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Darleen was born on July 19, 1927, in Grant Township, Linn County, Iowa, the only child to Gilbert John and Wilma Virgia (Wright) Price. She was a 1944 graduate of Troy Mills High School. On December 29, 1944, Darleen was united in marriage to Paul J. Baty in Buchanan County, Iowa. To this union, four children were born and Paul preceded her in death in August of 1983. Darleen later married Robert “Bob” P. Brokens on June 3, 1989, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, and united both their families. Sadly, Bob preceded her in death on January 15, 2013.
Darleen was a homemaker and farm wife for many years prior to her employment with Collins Radio. She retired in December of 1989, after nearly 24 years as an Avionics Assembler. Bob and Darleen wintered in Mission, Texas, where they enjoyed square dancing for 16 years. She loved riding with Bob on his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle, and together they also enjoyed camping, and traveling in their motor home. Darleen was a member of the Troy Mills Christian Church, Troy Mills Ladies Auxiliary, The Red Hat Society, Two River Good Sams Club, and Buffalo Creek Square Dance Club. She also loved crocheting, collecting coins, antiquing, and spending time with her family. Darleen will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Darleen is survived and lovingly remembered by her two sons, Lon (Kathleen) Baty, and Steve (Bobbi) Baty both of Coggon; stepdaughter, Barbara (Robert) McCright of Rowley, Iowa; four grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer) Baty, Jennifer Austin, Mathew (Amber) Baty, and Mitchell Baty; three stepgrandchildren, Dan Inda, Kori (Tadd) Martin, and Amy (John) Berns; nine great-grandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-great-grandson.
In addition to her first and second husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter at infancy; one son, Terry Baty; and one stepdaughter, Beverly Kohl.
