Bihari C. Richards, a vibrant soul who touched the lives of all who knew him, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025, at the age of 55. Born on September 3, 1969, in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, he was the beloved son of Douglas Rex Richards and MadhuKanta Maya Richards. Bihari's journey through life was marked by his indomitable spirit, infectious laughter, and deep love for family and friends.
From the moment he entered the world, Bihari was a fighter. Weighing only 3 pounds 12 ounces at birth, his mother was determined to bring him home, and with the doctor's assurance that he would thrive upon reaching 5 pounds, Bihari was joyfully welcomed into his home just 15 days later. This early display of resilience set the tone for a life filled with determination and joy.
Bihari attended Special Education at Cedar Rapids Prairie Schools. He was an enthusiastic athlete for the Special Olympics community, where he excelled in swimming and bocce ball. Loved his time at Camp Courageous and ARC. His enthusiasm for sports extended beyond competition; Bihari had a love for football and basketball, proudly wearing hundreds of hats representing various teams, as he truly loved them all.
Traveling held a special place in Bihari's heart, and he cherished numerous memorable vacations. Notably, he had the thrilling opportunity to steer a boat in the Caribbean Sea while visiting St. Thomas Island, a moment that encapsulated his adventurous spirit. His love for exploration was only rivaled by his equally strong affection for chocolate milkshakes, which he enjoyed with glee.
Bihari’s personality was a radiant light in the lives of those around him. He was a social butterfly, a dancer, and an enthusiastic singer of 1980s rock, pop, and country music. His love for life was evident in his joyful breakdancing, which brought smiles to everyone in the room. His vibrant spirit and infectious laughter filled gatherings with warmth; he had an extraordinary ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
Bihari is survived by his loving parents, Douglas Rex Richards and MadhuKanta Maya Richards. He is preceded in death by his beloved grandparents and brother Shakhar, who surely welcomed him with open arms into heaven and the next life.
A visitation will be Thursday, April 3, 2025, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. A memorial service to honor Bihari’s life will be held at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories on April 4, 2025, at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Bihari’s memory are encouraged to consider donations to organizations that support individuals with disabilities, ensuring that his legacy of joy and inclusivity continues to flourish.
