Virginia (Ginny) M. Cook passed away January 20, 2025, in Sebring, Florida, at the age of 85. Funeral services will be held 10:30 am on, Saturday, April 5, 2025, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. The burial will take place at a later date.
Born January 29, 1939, in Waukon, Iowa, to John and Mildred (Mellick) Kilpatrick. She married William (Bill) Cook May 30, 1981. Ginny and Bill retired to Sand Lake, Wisconsin, where for many years their home was a gathering place for family and friends. Following Bill’s death Ginny relocated to Florida to be closer to her sister, Evelyn. Ginny always had a ready smile for everyone and would never turn down the chance to play a game of cards.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, sister-in-law Roberta Reid, brothers Vince, Tom, Bob, Bill, and Greg, brother-in-law Chuck Monnahan, sisters Ann (Pete) Prentice, Mary Ellen (Walter) Drew, Lorraine and Linda, and several nieces and nephews.
Virginia is survived by two stepdaughters, Janet (Paul) Patterson and Jeanie Jones, stepgrandchildren Joshua Bauer, Heather Bryant, Nathan Bauer, Jessica Poppe, Paul Poppe, Michelle Poppe, Travis Jones and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers Dale (Darlene) and Deryl (Pat), sisters Elaine Monnahan, Evelyn (Fred) Seely, sister-in-law Jeanette Kilpatrick, brothers-in-law Tom (Marilyn) and David (Linda) and many nephews and nieces.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
