Dr. William R. Turner D.V.M., age 76, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March, 23, 2025 in Des Moines
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 5, 2025 at Central Presbyterian Church in Newhall, with Rev. Daniel Sanford officiating. Private family interment will be held prior to the services at the church. Lunch and a time for sharing with the family will follow immediately after the service. A memorial fund has been established.
William was born on August 11, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Dr. William and Janet (Wilson) Turner. He attended Mason City High School and graduated with the class of 1966, where he was an honor student, member of the golf team, and a starting defensive tackle on the undefeated 1965 MCHS football team coached by HS Hall of Famer Bill Moore. He graduated from the Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1972. He was united in marriage to Linda Kasten on July 27, 1974 in Rapids City, IL, and the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past summer. William practiced veterinary medicine in Newhall from August of 1976 until retiring. He continued in his profession at the Walker Sale Barn until 2017. William drove school bus for College Community School District since 2009. He truly enjoyed the children and his co-workers.
William served as an elder for his church, on the Benton County Board of Health, and as a member of the Newhall Volunteer Fire Department for 15 years. He loved his dogs, the outdoors, spending time fishing and hunting, as well as exploring state parks. He also loved to golf, traveling to area courses with his friends.
He is survived by his wife; Linda; son, Arthur Turner of Newhall; two daughters, Mandy (Christopher) Shakespeare of Robins, Michelle (Roland) Blaine of Excelsior Springs, MO; 5 grandchildren, Trai (Angela) Shakespeare, Dominik (Kalina) Shakespeare, Roland, Devin, and A.J. Blaine; great-granddaughter, Evelyn Shakespeare; brother, Charles (Carla) Turner of Ames, 2 sisters, Sue Wiedmann of Story City, Judy Shaw of Minneapolis, and several nieces and nephews and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his niece Anna Wiedmann.
