Joyce Gail Chiles, 90, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully Monday, March 17, 2025 at Briarwood Health Care Center. A Graveside service will be held at 1 PM Monday, May 19, 2025 at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City. A gathering will be held following from 2-4 PM at the Elks Lodge #590, 637 Foster Road, Iowa City, IA.
Joyce was born March 22, 1934, in Tipton, IA, the daughter of Wilbur and Mabel (Lausen) Conrad. She graduated from Tipton High School in 1952. Joyce was united in marriage to Melvin Dee Chiles Sr. on April 26,1969. She worked various jobs as a dental assistant, receptionist at a Realtor office and a recruiter for the Iowa College of Cosmetology. She was a long-time member of the Elks Club and especially enjoyed the sunny summer days at the pool.
Joyce is survived by her two sons, Melvin Dee (Susan) Chiles, Jr., and John W. (Pattie) Chiles all of Iowa City; four grandchildren, Ryan (Kaye), Brett (Olivia), Chad (Courtney) and Branden (Laura) Chiles; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mel Chiles; parents, Wilbur and Mabel Conrad; siblings, Don Conrad and Betty Long.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Elks Lodge #590 pool fund. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.lensingfuneral.com.
