Christine “Chris” A. Mooney, 63, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2025, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. where there will be a 3:30 p.m. rosary at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2025, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre will be assisting the family at this time.
Christine Ann was born on August 8, 1961 in Cedar Rapids the daughter of Eveard Carl and Marie Helen (Franc) Hartson. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1979. She was united in marriage to Pat Mooney on September 22, 1979 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She worked at the University of Iowa in the Orthopedic Department and retired in 2024.
Chris is survived by her daughter Amie (Ryan) DeBlieck; grandchildren Kayden, Beckett and Yvette; her sisters Judy (Craig) Willman, Sue (Mel) Ellis; brothers-in-law Tim (Julee) Mooney and Dave Hoch; sister-in-law Julie Mooney; many nieces and nephews; and her best friend of 53 years, Teresa (Kerry) Brackett.
Chris was preceded in death by her husband Patrick Mooney, parents, stepfather William Ellis, brother Abe Hartson, brother-in-law Terry Mooney, and sister-in-law Maureen Hoch.
She was a loving, selfless, and extraordinary woman whose strength, kindness, and unwavering support shaped the lives of everyone around her. Her nurturing spirit, gentle wisdom, and endless capacity for love made her not only a wonderful person but a guiding light and confidant to her family and friends. She led with compassion, gave without hesitation, and taught by example — leaving behind a legacy of warmth, grace, and unconditional love that will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the dedicated staff of Mercy Medical Center 5th Floor Pulmonary Unit and Hospice House of Mercy for their unwavering compassion, exceptional care, and kindness during her final days.
