What to know: Lipscomb is a private university in Nashville. It had a total enrollment of 4,677 for last fall’s semester.
This is the Bisons’ second NCAA tournament appearance. They lost to North Carolina 84-66 in a 2018 first-round game. Lipscomb was the NIT runner-up to Texas in 2019. Iowa State is 23-23 in the tournament.
Lipscomb has won its last six games, including the Atlantic Sun Conference championship against North Alabama.
Head coach Lennie Acuff is in his fifth season at Lipscomb, with a record of 110-81. He’s been a college head coach since 1990, with stops at two NAIA schools (Belhaven and Berry), and 23 years at Division II Alabama-Huntsville.
Lipscomb’s leading scorer is 6-foot-8 senior forward Jacob Ognacevic, who averages 20.1 points and 8.1 rebounds. He is one of just 20 players in the naton averaging 20 points. He is from Sheboygan, Wis., 56 miles from Milwaukee.
Iowa State sophomore forward Milan Momcilovic is from Pewaukee, Wis., 17 miles from Milwaukee.
Cyclones Coach T.J. Otzelberger was born in Milwaukee and grew up there.
Lipscomb is 1-2 against teams in the NCAA tourney, with losses to Arkansas and Kentucky and a win over Wofford. Iowa State is 6-6 against teams in the tourney.
The Cyclones will be without Keshon Gilbert in the tournament. He averages 13.4 points, 4.1 assists and 1.7 steals.
Iowa State is in its fourth NCAA tourney in four years under Otzelberger. It won two NCAA games in Milwaukee in 2022.
No. 3-seeds have a 133-23 record against No. 14-seeds. No. 3-seeds are 287-152 overall, with four championships.
The Cyclones are 15-8 in NCAA first-round games.
