Wilma L. (Toll) Evans, age 99, a longtime resident of Iowa City, passed away at Briarwood Health Care Center on March 18, 2025, surrounded by her children.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 23, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Gay & Ciha Funeral Home in Iowa City. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 24, at 11:00 am at First Christian Church in Coralville. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City.
Wilma was born August 27, 1925, in Attica, Iowa, the daughter of Ira and Nellie Toll. She married Emmett E. Evans on October 27, 1946. Wilma retired in 1988, having worked at the University Hospital Business Office in Iowa City for 31 years.
She was a member of the First Christian Church and Mercy Guild, and enjoyed volunteering at University of Iowa Hospitals and Mercy Hospital. Her passion in life was her loving family.
She is survived by daughters, Janis McVeigh (Dan) and Peg Wooldrik (Dave); son, Dick Evans (Donna); five grandchildren, Megan Wooldrik, Matt Wooldrik (Jenny), Kara Belk (Ryan), Ben Evans (Nicole), and Patrick McVeigh (Tara); and ten great-grandchildren, Leo, Samson and Noel Belk; Brooks, Charlotte, and Emmerson Lou Evans; Cal and Bo Wooldrik; and Harrison and Amelia McVeigh; and several nieces and nephews.
Wilma was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Emmett; her parents; her brothers Kenneth and Alfred (Ace) Toll; her sister, Norma Walker; and a great-granddaughter, Maggie Belk.
The family wishes to thank the many health care professionals at University of Iowa Health Care, Briarwood Health Care Center, and Essence of Life Hospice of Amana for their compassionate care of Wilma.
