Manchester
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Doreen Marion (Creighton) Moroney. Doreen passed away peacefully on March 17, 2025, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. She was born on August 14, 1926, in Galena, Illinois, the daughter of James and Clara (Biren) Creighton. Doreen was a graduate of Galena High School.
While visiting her sister in Masonville, Doreen met Dean Moroney. They were united in marriage on May 3, 1947, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Galena. They farmed together for many years and retired on Lake Delhi where they enjoyed many years together.
Doreen was a devoted mother to Craig Moroney (Sharon) and Cindy Lyness (Jim). She was the treasured grandmother to Katie Perry (Mike), Maggie Peck (Fred), James Moroney (Bridget), Shannon Lake (Brad), Elizabeth Best (Andrew), and Jennifer Fordyce (John), and 12 great-grandchildren. Her priority in life was her family and she found immense joy in their presence, saying they are what kept her young at heart.
Doreen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dean in 2015; and her seven siblings.
Doreen was not only the matriarch of her family, but also a cherished friend to many. She had a warm and welcoming kitchen that was open to all. Doreen looked forward to her weekly afternoon visits at the local Hardee’s, trading stories and laughs with her many friends.
Doreen’s legacy of love, laughter, and homemade cake balls will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
We want to express our deepest gratitude to Lila, a very special friend, and Brooke and her staff at the Good Neighbor Home for their care and kindness to our mother. Any memorials may be directed to the Good Neighbor Society.
