CEDAR RAPIDS - They combined for 1,621 points. This season.
They combined for 4,271 points. In their careers.
Add in the rebounds, the assists, the steals, the blocked shot, the intangibles, and Trey McKowen, Davis Kern and Jack McCaffery had immaculate prep basketball careers. That have ended with all-state honors.
The Corridor colossals were selected first-teamers in Class 4A by the Iowa Professional Sportswriters Association. The IPSWA released its full all-state teams Tuesday, picked by media members and coaches.
West Des Moines Valley senior center Trevin Jirak is the 2025 Iowa Mr. Basketball. The 6-foot-9 University of Northern Iowa recruit helped his team to its third consecutive 4A championships this past weekend, averaging 16.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.1 blocked shots per game.
The 6-9 Kern is headed to South Dakota State after a career that saw him break the Metro’s career scoring record. He led Linn-Mar to the semifinals of the 4A state tournament, where it lost in overtime to Valley.
Kern averaged 22.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.4 blocked shots per game this season. He had 1,780 points in his four-year varsity career, surpassing former Linn-Mar great Marcus Paige.
Guard McKowen, headed to Upper Iowa, also helped Kennedy to the state tourney in 4A. He averaged 22.7 points, 4.8 assists and 3.6 steals per game for the Cougars, scoring 1,055 points in his three-year varsity career.

Joining Bechen on the 1A first team is Montezuma junior guard Brady Boulton. He averaged 28.2 points and 4.8 assists.
In 2A, there is North Fayette Valley senior center Cael Reichter. The 6-foot-8 do-everything player helped the TigerHawks to an undefeated regular season for the first time in school history: averaging 29.4 points and 15.8 rebounds per game.
Reichter, who is headed to Upper Iowa, shot 61.5 percent from the field, including a more-than-acceptable 44.3 from 3-point range. He set virtually every school scoring and rebounding record.
