Cedar Rapids water main repair impacting traffic on Collins Road

CEDAR RAPIDS — Staff from the Cedar Rapids Utilities Department are working to repair a water main break on the southwest corner of the Collins Road NE and C Avenue NE intersection.

The break was discovered in the early hours of Sunday. City staff responded to investigate and begin work on the repair, and work is ongoing.

The water main break is at a depth that requires large equipment, according to a news release from the city. As a result, lanes to turn south onto C Avenue NE and to turn southwest onto Old Marion Road are closed.

One lane of eastbound Collins Road NE also is closed, from Rockwell Drive NE to C Avenue NE. According to the news release, the city has modified the traffic signal timing and will monitor the signals to “minimize traffic delays.” Drivers also are encouraged to find different routes around the area until repairs are complete.

The city anticipates lanes will reopen to traffic on Monday, March 24.
