CEDAR RAPIDS — The Cedar Rapids Police Department has released the names of three people who were found dead Thursday in what police believe was a murder/suicide.
Lynn Martin, 54, of Cedar Rapids, was found dead in a temporary bathroom in Noelridge Park, at 4900 Council St. NE, after police were called there at 12:24 p.m. Thursday. He appeared to have died from self-inflicted wounds.
The investigation led police to a home nearby in the 4400 block of Regal Ave. NE where officers found Rita Martin, 87, of Cedar Rapids and Alan Martin, 57, of Cedar Rapids both dead.
Investigators believe the deaths were a double homicide and suicide, and there is no threat to public safety, according to a news release from the police department.
According to an obituary for Rita Martin’s husband, Kenneth W. Martin, who died in 2000, Alan and Lynn Martin were the couple’s sons.
