James Alan Solem, 77, a resident of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, passed away March 2, 2025. A Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM, Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. The Memorial Service for James will be at 1 PM, Thursday, March 13 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Inurnment will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
James was born on June 28, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, IA, the son of George A. and Claire Jean (Hartgrave) Solem. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Jim cared for his family deeply. He enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Jim never needed a watch; he went by mealtimes. The family extends their gratitude to staff at the Iowa Veterans Home for their outstanding care of Jim.
Survivors include his brother, Robert (Marcia) Solem of Phoenix, AZ; sisters, Marie (Dick) Mara of Deltona, FL and Linda Prior of Cedar Rapids; nephew, Steve Turner of Cedar Rapids; great-nieces Amanda, Arianna, and Ashleigh; and several other nieces; nephews; great-nieces; and great-nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Judith Turner and Georgene (Gary) Squires; and brother-in-law, Jeff Prior.
