David (Dave) Emil Allick peacefully passed March 1, 2025, at the age of 77, surrounded by his loving family. Dave was born June 5,1947, to Emil and Christiane Allick. He is survived by two siblings, Dianne (Mike) O’Brien of St. Petersburg, Florida and Deb Allick of Cedar Rapids. Dave married Vinca Ketterer of Fennimore, Wisconsin on September 22, 1973. Together they had three children, Nathan, Christopher (Kacie) and Adam.
A graduate of Cedar Rapids Washington High school, Dave went on to achieve a master’s degree in sports broadcasting and journalism from The University of Iowa. He took over the family business, Emil’s Deli in 1974 and operated until retiring in 2014, passionate about serving great food to loyal customers. In retirement he continued to support the family legacy by helping his sister at Deb’s Ice Cream and Deli. Dave was a lifelong Hawkeye enthusiast about football and basketball. His latest hobby was researching and preparing for his radio segment on KGYM ESPN Radio as a sports gambling handicapper.
Dave will be remembered as a kind and gentle man with many friends. Visitation will be held March 6, 2025 from 4-7 pm at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A private burial will be limited to immediate family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital or Last Hope Animal Rescue.
