Kayleen “Kay” Sue Basler, 88, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, March 1, 2025. A visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids, with an additional visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Kay was born October 19, 1936, in Vinton, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd and Marguerite (Gardner) Thompson. She graduated from McKinley High School with the Class of 1954. Kay was united in marriage to David Basler on July 3, 2003, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids, where she was a devoted member. Her faith led her to serve as an elder and deacon for several Presbyterian churches, and she was honored to be one of the first Christ Care leaders at Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of PEO Chapter LU and the Beethoven Club, sharing her love of music and fellowship with many. Always primary in her life was her strong faith and love of family.
Survivors include her husband, David Basler of Cedar Rapids; children, Daniel Callarman of Cottonwood, Arizona, Kerry (Alan) Rosenfeld of St. Peters, Missouri, and Kurt (Tammy) Callarman of Wesley Chapel, Florida; two stepsons, Nathan (Erin) Basler of Istanbul, Turkey, and Evan (Denise) Basler of Longmont, Colorado; grandchildren, Tiffany (Robert) Briley, Brittany (Chris) Ruiz, Jenna Callarman, Ashley Rosenfeld, Oliver Basler, and Lillian Hank; and great-grandchildren, Vivian, Raymond and Bobbie Sue Briley, Haven and Camen Ruiz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, JoEllen Unterseher.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Memorial Fund at Westminster Presbyterian Church or UnityPoint Hospice.
