Atha “Kitty” Johnson, 88, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, February 25th, 2025, with family by her side. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4th, 2025, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, with a visitation one hour prior. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City, Iowa.
Kitty was born on January 29th, 1937, in Corning, Iowa, the daughter of Elvon “John” and Eliza (Robinson) Cross. She married the love of her life, William Johnson, on March 5th, 1965. The marriage lasted 58 beautiful years. With their combined families they raised eight children together.
Kitty was a homemaker for most of her life, however, she worked at Montgomery Wards, CRST, and then became office manager at Summit View Mobile Home Park, where she retired after 4 years. She was a First Church of the Open Bible member for over 30 years. She developed her own online ministry, which she had for several years, and it brought her great joy to bring the gospel to people.
She volunteered for Unity Point Hospice and was involved in many community programs and organizations.
Kitty loved crafting, word searches, jigsaw puzzles and popcorn. She loved flowers and had beautiful flower gardens.
Survivors include her children, William Johnson Jr. of Oregon, Robyn (Dave) Warren of Chico, California, Julie (Joe) McIntyre of Bonham, Texas, Pam Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; son-in-law, Jay Atwater; grandchildren: Amanda, Cassandra, Michelle, Ricky, Amy, Michael, Jennifer, Donny, Matthew and Brittany; several great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 13 brothers and sisters; her husband, William Johnson Sr.; and her children: Joni Byers, Scott Johnson, Jeff Cron, and Sheryl Vaughn.
She will be missed by many, especially her family left behind.
