Barbara Kay Farnsworth (Cushing), 71 of Iowa City passed away at the University of Iowa Hospital on March 1 after battling a long illness. She had the love of her life by her side.

Barb was born April 4 1953, in Key West, Florida and grew up in Riverside, Iowa. She married her husband Richard (Dick) Farnsworth on November 27, 1976, and after spending time in Texas, they settled down in Iowa City in 1982 to raise their family and open their mechanic shop, Farnsworth Automotive Air, until 2009. Dick and Barb were lifelong companions who loved to travel, cook and spend time together with their two children, Jason and Krista. Barb’s passions were cooking and caring for others, and she found the perfect opportunity to do that by nourishing the neighborhood when she opened her restaurant, Her Soup Kitchen 2009. She worked with her family serving the community until her and Dick’s retirement in June of 2023.

Barb was a devoted Gramma to her two grandkids whom she cherished and loved deeply. Barb will be greatly missed by all her friends, family and customers she has met along the way, she truly was one of the good ones.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William Cushing and Ardith Cushing.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years Richard Farnsworth, her son Jason Farnsworth, her daughter Krista (Tyler) Christensen and their two children, Noah and Sadie; Her sister-in-law Nancy (Paul) Dunlap, sister Nancy (Doug) Schnoebelen, and 8 nieces and nephews.
