The Iowa Legislature is considering a bill to establish the teaching of the Bible in public schools. As a Christian, I am glad there are politicians who believe that the Bible is worthy to be allowed in public schools. But is public school the place for religious education? Many teachers are agnostic, atheists, or have religious beliefs that are antithetical to Christian beliefs and the truth of the Bible, and would treat the Bible as fantasy or fiction which is completely antithetical to Christian education.
The establishment of Bible education in schools would likely trigger members of other religions to demand that the Quran and the Hadiths, The Vedas, the Tripitaka, the Book of Mormon, or satanic verses, etc. to be taught in public schools. Religious education, (and sex education) should be a function of the church, the family, and Christian schools, and public schools would do well to concentrate on reading, literacy, math, science, physics, history, and civics instead of promoting political views and sexual and gender behaviors.
