Marion man dies after falling through ice near Palo
Two other men also fell through the ice and were taken to the hospital

A 46-year-old Marion man died Thursday afternoon after falling through the ice at Chain Lakes County Park near Palo, according to a news release from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
Three men fell through the ice in a lake behind 8105 Chain Lake Rd., while ice fishing at about 2:40 p.m. Thursday. When emergency responders got to the scene, David Thomas, 67, of Marion, and Brad Holsinger, 66, of Walker, had pulled the third, Brian Thomas, 46, of Marion.
Brian Thomas was unconscious when he was pulled to the shore.
First responders started CPR on Brian Thomas and he was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. The other two men were taken to Mercy and UnityPoint Health — St. Lukes for treatment of hypothermia, the release states.
Brian Thomas’ remains were transported to the state lab in Ankeny for autopsy.
The Sheriff’s Office was helped at the scene by the Monroe Fire Department, the Hiawatha Ambulance Service and the Cedar Rapids Fire Department.
