Dorothy L. Summy, 96, of Cedar Rapids, passed away February 20, 2025.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Warren L. “Bud” Summy in 2009, and brothers, Donald and Erwin Ahrendsen.
Dorothy was born on February 20, 1929, in Center Junction, Iowa, the daughter of Hans H. and Sophie (Frederickson) Ahrendsen.
She married Warren L. “Bud” Summy on October 22, 1955 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
She was employed at the Cedar Rapids Airport for 25 years as an executive secretary. She also volunteered at Taylor school and St. Mark’s Methodist Church. Among her many talents were gardening, sewing, crocheting, knitting, and crafting. She was an avid reader and never lost her zest for life even in her later years.
She is lovingly remembered by her friends, Art, Linda, Jim, and Jackie, Fatima Smejkal, special nieces Kathy Olsen and Sandy Driscoll, and a sister-in-law, Barb Ahrendson.
We would like to thank the staff at Westridge Care Center and all the Hospice caregivers. We cannot thank you all enough for the exceptional care and concern for Dorothy. It was so comforting to know that she was surrounded by such compassionate and loving caregivers.
