Gerald A. Pickart, age 74 of Marengo, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2025 at UnityPoint St. Luke’s in Cedar Rapids. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 1 to 4 P.M. Saturday, March 1, 2025 at the Marengo Golf Club, Marengo, Iowa. Inurnment will be at a later date at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Norway, Iowa. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Gerald is survived by four children, Thad Pickart of Norway, Damien Pickart (Vanessa) of Shueyville, Rachel Lathrop (Josh) of Shueyville, and Erin Schulte (Erik) of Amana; seven grandchildren, Caroline (Sam) Krapfl, Alejandro Pickart, Jordan, Max, and Mary Lathrop, and Calvin and Holley Schulte; and a great-grandson Nathaniel Krapfl.
Also surviving are his brothers, Bruce (Liz), Mark (Regina) and Terry Pickart, and a sister Lorie (Steve) Davis, along with an uncle Robert Holland. He was preceded in death by his mother Harriet Holland Pickart, his father David Pickart, and a brother David Allen Pickart.
Gerald Arthur Pickart was born October 9, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of David and Harriet Holland Pickart. He received his education in the Benton County schools, and graduated from Benton Community High School in 1969. Following graduation he married Marchell Kahle on April 25, 1970, and to this union four children were born. Gerald went to work for Wilson Foods in Cedar Rapids, (renamed Farmstead Foods) where he stayed for 20-plus years. He then worked for Amana Refrigeration until his retirement in 2016. Gerald was a former volunteer fire fighter for the Blairstown Fire Department. He served as a Boy Scout leader of Troop 46, also in Blairstown.
Gerald loved spending time with his children. He took frequent family trips to Adventureland, and a few memorable family vacation trips. He enjoyed many different activities, including fishing, golfing, hunting, Rolle Bolle, and visiting with his friends in his garage. He will be remembered for his orneriness and spending time with his rowdy friends.
