State investigating fatal pedestrian crash involving Iowa City fire engine
A 99-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene

The Iowa State Patrol is investigating a collision early Sunday morning involving an Iowa City Fire Department fire engine that left a 99-year-old woman dead.
A fire engine with the Iowa City Fire Department was leaving a medical call at Legacy Senior Living, 1020 Scott Blvd., in Iowa City, at 6:46 a.m. Sunday when it was “involved in an accident with a pedestrian,” according to a news release from the city.
The release states the accident resulted in a fatality.
A crash report from the Iowa State Patrol identifies the deceased as Evelyn Bothmer, 99, of Iowa City. The crash report states she was struck by the fire engine. Bothmer was declared dead at the scene, and taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics by the Johnson County Medical Examiner.
The collision remains under investigation by the State Patrol.
