Gerald Martin Stewart, 99 of Cedar Rapids, IA, formerly of Luzerne, IA, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2025 peacefully at his home.
Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 21, 2025 at St. Michaels Catholic Church, Belle Plaine, IA, with Deacon Joe Behounek officiating. Burial is at Oak Hill Cemetery, Belle Plaine with military honors. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family. Gerald was born December 19, 1925 in rural Blairstown the son of Lester J. and Alice (Shaull) Stewart. He graduated in 1943 from Blairstown High School. Following school, he worked with his father on the farm before being drafted into the United States Army. Gerald served two years in the Army then returned home to continue work on the farm. June 19, 1946 Gerald married Winifred Duncalf together they lived on the family farm, until 1969 when they moved to Luzerne, Gerald began working for the Iowa Department of Transportation, he retired from the DOT in 1987.
Gerald was an animal lover. He enjoyed his time spent riding horses while in the South Slope Saddle Club. Gerald was a creative wood worker and spent a lot of his time volunteering at the Belle Plaine Community Center.
He was survived by his daughter, Mary Ellen (Daniel) Fuller of Cedar Rapids; daughter-in-law Carol Stewart of Belle Plaine; grandchildren, Rebecca (Brian) Lauer of Troy, MO, Phillip (Amy) Stewart of Belle Plaine, Thomas (Niamh) Stewart of Seattle, WA; great-grandchildren, Carley, Ben, Evie, Savannah, Anthony; and many more loving family and friends.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; wife Winifred; son, Alan Stewart; siblings, Loren Stewart, Evelyn Kubichek, Donald Stewart, Merle Stewart; grandson Craig Stewart; and beloved dog, Snowflake.
