ImOn Communications, the Cedar Rapids-based provider of internet services, announced last week it expanded its fibernet internet cables by 265 miles in 2024.
It also announced it gave back $580,000 to nonprofits, community programs, and initiatives across its six service areas last yera.
The company’s 2024 expansion represented a $67 million investment, the company said in a news release.
More than half the fiber laid last year, 168 miles, was in the Cedar Rapids metro and the greater Dubuque areas.
ImOn also invested in new metro areas, including Siouxland, which encompasses the communities surrounding Sioux City; and in the east, bringing fiber internet to Clinton and Camanche for the first time.
The Camanche network was completed in early January 2025; Clinton will be built out by this spring.
In addition, the company began building fiber internet in Marshalltown last year and will begin serving customers in that market this spring.
“2024 was an incredibly pivotal year for us,” Patrice Carroll, ImOn president and CEO, said in a statement. “We continued our rapid growth, both in our own backyard and in new communities -- even new states.”
Carroll expressed gratitude to the company’s employees, contractors, partners and vendors “whose hard work made this possible. We are also deeply grateful to our customers.”
The company said its donations through the ImOn Gives program helped support more than 190 organizations. The company focuses its annual giving in four areas: arts and culture, children and education, economic development, and social services.
