Thomas John Kinley, 75, of Coggon, Iowa, passed away, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. A private family service will be held, and burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Coggon.
Thomas was born on May 31, 1949, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Leo and Jean (Kerr) Kinley. He graduated from North Linn/Coggon Center in 1967 and went on to serve honorably in the United States Air Force. Once he returned home, he earned his associate's degree from Kirkwood Community College. On June 28, 1975, Thomas was united in marriage to Debra Daker in Edgewood, Iowa. He worked as a farmer, then for North Linn Schools as a janitor, bus driver, and truck driver for UBC/ProBuild in Walker, Iowa. Thomas enjoyed playing cards, having coffee with his buddies, and reading the plugger/pickles cartoons in the newspaper. He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. Thomas enjoyed watching and assisting his kids with showing cattle, as well as supporting his children and grandchildren in their sports and school activities over the years. He took part in the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight in October of 2019. Thomas will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Thomas is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Debbie of Coggon; daughter, Tracey Kinley (Bill Marsau) of Coggon; grandchildren, Grant Rechkemmer and Addison Rechkemmer both of Walker, Iowa; siblings, Mary Jean Brewer of Fort Lupton, Colorado; Ann (Hollis) Hunter of Burke, Virginia, Jan (Dave) Andrews of Marion, and Nancy (Terra) Kinley of Colona, Illinois; in-laws, Bruce Daker of Edgewood, and Denise (Jeff) Barnes of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Francis Kinley; and son, Todd Kinley.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice house of Mercy for the kindness shown to Thomas and his family.
