Steven Orlan Patterson, 79, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025, at Living Center West in Cedar Rapids. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Steven was born on March 24, 1945, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Harry Orlan and Virginia Lee (Cannon) Patterson. He graduated from Burlington High School and went on to attend Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. On April 28, 1990, Steven was united in marriage to Janet “Jan” Kathleen Owens in Hastings, Nebraska. He worked as a Pastor at the Assembly of God, then for the Human Resources Department in Franklin, Nebraska. Most recently, Steven worked for the US Census Bureau. He loved the game of chess and was a part of the US Chess Federation. Steven enjoyed the Community Theater, concerts and listening to music. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Steven is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Jan Patterson of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Stefanie (Curt) Thompson of Quincy, Illinois, and Tiffany Patterson of Indiana; three grandchildren, Spencer, Connor, and Clair; sisters, Donna Gulick of Greensboro, North Carolina, and Barbara Paris of Nashville, Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; half-sister, Joan; and half-brother, Jim.
Memorials in Steven’s memory may be directed to a local food bank of the donor’s choice, or to the family.
