Michael D. Hartl, 66, of Mechanicsville,
passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
A visitation honoring his life will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mechanicsville. His funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the same church, followed by a burial service at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mechanicsville. The family is being supported by Dawson Funeral Services of Olin during this difficult time.
Michael David was born on October 31, 1958, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Edward “Sonny” and Madonna (Meskimen) Hartl. A proud alumnus of Mount Vernon High School, he went on to marry the love of his life, Jerilyn Mackey, on June 12, 1982, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Michael dedicated over eleven years to Farmstead in Cedar Rapids and later contributed his talents at Robert’s Dairy in Iowa City. Mike retired from Prairie Farms in Dubuque in 2020. He was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Teamsters Union 120 in Dubuque.
Known for his passion for collecting knives, Michael also cherished time spent outdoors, nurturing his vibrant garden and proudly planting towering sunflowers. His yard was a testament to his meticulous nature, always kept pristine through his diligent care.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Michael embodied the true spirit of hard work, instilling these values in his three beloved children.
He leaves behind a loving family who will miss him deeply, including his wife, Jeri; three children: Josh (Carlee) Hartl of Pleasant Hill, Jeremy (Lindy) Hartl of Central City, and Melissa (John) Burnett of Anamosa; along with eight cherished grandchildren: Olivia, Graysen, Gage, Bianca, Bridger, Alara, Clara, and Baby Burnett on the way. He is also survived by three siblings: Cindy Spivey of Tiffin, Kathy (Ken) Snyder of Ely, and Dennis (Jill) Hartl of Cedar Rapids.
Michael is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and his beloved parents.
Michael's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at St. Luke's Hospice for the excellent care they provided during this difficult time. Your compassion and support meant so much to them and greatly eased their journey. Thank you for your dedication and kindness.
