A man who was wanted in connection with a stabbing in Marion last year was arrested Friday by U.S. marshals in Indiana, according to a press release from the U.S. Marshals Service.
Jordy Torres-Cabeza, 25, is facing charges in Linn County of willful injury causing bodily injury, assault while displaying a dangerous weapon and use of a dangerous weapon in the commission of a crime.
The stabbing critically injured a man, who was not identified, at 4:47 a.m. Sept. 19 at 4941 Tama St., according to Marion police.
On Dec. 30, the Marion Police Department contacted the U.S. Marshals fugitive task force to ask for assistance in locating Torres-Cabezas, who had fled the state, the news release stated.
The marshals located Torres-Cabezas in the 4300 block of Calumet Ave. in Valparaiso. They approached the location just before 11 a.m. Friday, and Torres-Cabezas surrendered and was arrested without incident.
He will remain in custody until he can be extradited to Iowa, according to the release.
Torres-Cabezas is a citizen of Ecuador and an undocumented immigrant who has been in the U.S. since 2022, according to the release.
