Theresa Rose (Drahozal) Wieser, 81, died Tuesday, January 21, 2025. There will be no services at this time; however, a burial with Leroy at the Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter and St. John’s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids will take place later. Papich-Kuba Funeral Service is caring for the family.
She was born September 6, 1943, to Rudolph and Bridget (Hruska) Drahozal in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the youngest of eight children. Theresa attended St. Ludmila Grade School, Regis High School, and graduated from the University of Iowa. She worked for 34 years for the State of Iowa in Independence.
Theresa married Leroy Wieser on November 29, 1974, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. They were married for almost 50 years before Leroy died in May 2024.
She spent many hours volunteering at Meals On Wheels in Buchanan and Benton Counties; Rock and Read at CP-U; 15 years at St. Luke’s Hospital; the Salvation Army as a bell ringer, delivering meals during the flood; and various community organizations. She and Leroy volunteered for two special projects for Earthwatch to Belize and Swaziland. They also made eight trips to Mississippi to assist after Hurricane Katrina, and at the Center for the Deaf.
Theresa enjoyed gardening with Leroy, making pies, playing slo-pitch in Independence (she hit five home runs in two games!), and umpired Little League.
She is survived by her brothers, Bernie, Mike (Jan), and Denny; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leroy; siblings, Thomas, Ed (Carol), Catherine (Bill) Sheka, and Mary Lou Sanborn; and sister-in-law, Shirley.
Memorials may be sent to St. John’s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
