Carole passed away Jan. 25, 2025 in Spokane, WA. She was born May 18, 1936 to Charles and Laverne Hagan of Atkins, IA. She was valedictorian of her class at Atkins High School, attended Iowa State College, the University of Colorado and graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. After teaching in Austin, MN and Colorado Springs, she taught missionary children for one year in Soonchun, Korea.
She married Stanley Lewis of California in 1964 and moved to Spokane, WA, where Carole continued teaching. They later divorced. They had two daughters, Sherilyn Owens and Keelie Lewis.
Carole completed 90 hours of post-graduate work toward a Master’s degree at Whitworth College in Spokane. She retired after 33 years of teaching full time and six years of teaching preschool or substituting.
Carole is survived by her daughter Sheri, grandson Nathaniel Owens, granddaughter Mikayla Owens, granddaughter Kailen Best, sister Phyllis Mumford-Sovern and brother-in-law Kent Sovern of Des Moines, sister Bonnie Keiper of Atkins, five nephews and nieces, one grand-nephew and seven grand-nieces.
Preceding her in death were her parents Charles and Laverne Hagan, her brother Eugene, her daughter Keelie Lewis and her brother-on-law Douglas Keiper.
The memorial will be held at a later date.
