The Duane Arnold Energy Center has an impeccable history of operating safely and providing consistent power to Linn County and the state for decades. After seeing the news of NextEra Energy’s decision to begin the process of reevaluating and reopening the plant, I am hopeful they will move forward.
Having lived in the community while Duane Arnold was operating, I know firsthand the work that was done to make sure the facility operated safely and to protect the surrounding area. We never had issues with the facility in the decades it previously operated. I am hopeful it would operate with the same level of safety measures in place and necessary updates will be made to the facility to protect its employees — and neighbors like me.
Reopening Duane Arnold will provide consistent clean power and fuel hundreds of jobs, promoting growth for the local and state economies. Because of its strong safety record and benefits it will bring to the local community and state; I support the reopening of the Duane Arnold Energy Center.
