Merrill “Bud” Proskovec, 81 of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Northbrook Healthcare Center. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home. Private family burial will take place at St. John’s Cemetery.
Bud is survived by his son, Brett (Michelle) Proskovec of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Jodi (Chad) Wauters of Peosta; grandchildren, Zak Wauters, Whitney Wauters, Jaxon Wauters, Drew Proskovec, Tate Proskovec, and Lily Proskovec; brother, Joe (Connie) Proskovec; sister Kathy Glasmann; nieces, Mindy (Tom) Rosh, Allie (Greg) Sherman, and nephew Connor Proskovec.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janice Proskovec; and brother-in-law, Tom Glasmann.
Bud was born on February 5, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, to Emil and Mildred Merrill Proskovec. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1962 and earned a bachelor's degree in Physical Education Teaching from Washburn University in 1965. Bud was a serviceman for Pepsi Beverages Company and previously worked for the Linn-Mar Community School District.
Bud enjoyed being with his grandchildren and attending their activities. He also liked taking the LIFTS bus to Target for a Starbucks coffee, spending time at the Westfield Tennis Club (Smithfield Tennis and Pickleball Center), and doing woodworking projects with his friend, Dave.
