Russell (John) Hinkel, Jr., 58 of Cedar Rapids, IA, passed away on January 24 at St. Luke’s Hospital from a brief illness. Per John’s wishes there will be no funeral services. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Teahen Funeral Home is assisting the family.
John was born on May 30, 1966 in Cedar Rapids to Russell J Hinkel, Sr. and Sandra L Grant. He graduated from Kennedy High School and enlisted in the Army after his high school graduation where he served for 3 years. Russell enjoyed fishing and NASCAR racing.
John is survived by his partner of 15 years, Tammy Sakulin; mother Sandra L Grant and her partner Octavio of Palo; son Jason Hinkel (Crystal) of Cedar Rapids; and daughters Tara Mabie-Bahr (Brandon) of Cedar Rapids and Amber Sinkey (Noah) of Belle Plaine; Tammy’s daughters Destiny and Ashley;
8 grandchildren that he loved dearly, 4 grandsons and
4 granddaughters; siblings Dan Hinkel of Des Moines, Trevor Hinkel (Joleen) of Marion and Trudi Troendle (Chad) of Cedar Rapids; Octavio’s sons, Junior and Lui; nieces Brianne Brekke and Hannah Hinkel; nephew Collin Troendle and many several extended family members.
John was preceded in death by his father Russell John Hinkel, Sr., and his dad Rodger Grant and maternal and paternal grandparents.
Instead of flowers, donations may be made to the Palo Savings Bank.
