Marilynn Kaye Butler, 79, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away Friday, January 24, 2025, at Colonial Manor, Amana, Iowa. Visitation: 9 - 11 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website tribute page for Marilynn, under “photos and videos,” starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 1.
Marilynn was born November 9, 1945, in West Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of William and Bettye (Sonderegger) Winslow. She graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines in 1963. She graduated from Iowa State University in 1967 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She married Ross Butler in August of 1967. They later divorced. Marilynn worked at the Ced-Rel Supper Club for several years and was then an in-home daycare provider for over forty years. During those years she provided daycare to over one hundred families, many whom became life-long family friends. Marilynn enjoyed collecting teddy bears and Precious Moments, participating in bowling leagues, watching Hawkeye and Cyclone sports and game shows, and eating out at Culver’s.
Marilynn was very active in PTA in the Cedar Rapids School District. She served as the PTA President at Madison Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High, Jefferson High School and as PTA President of the Cedar Rapids Community Schools. She was recognized with a National Honorary PTA Membership for her contributions. Marilynn was also a 4-H leader for many years.
Survivors include her daughters, Wendy (Todd) Hagen of Homestead and Kelly (Mike) Vifian of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; Taylor (Hannah) Hagen of Oxford; Tanner (Karley) Hagen of Homestead; Bailey Vifian, Shelby Vifian and Addy Vifian all of Cedar Rapids. Her great-granddaughters Mazie Hagen and Millie Hagen, and her sister Suzanne (Douglas) Buchanan of West Des Moines.
Marilynn was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Roxanne Murray.
Memorials are for Essence of Life Hospice of Amana or the Activities Fund at Colonial Manor of Amana.
