CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids man was arrested Thursday on a charge of prostitution that’s connected to a human trafficking case two people were arrested for in July, according to charging documents.
Tana Renee Torres, 50, of Cedar Rapids, and Jarod Earl Anderson, 35, of Hiawatha, were arrested in July and charged with human trafficking of a minor, sexual abuse and conspiracy to commit a forcible felony. Torres also was charged with prostitution, while Anderson also was charged with pimping and sexual exploitation of a minor.
According to criminal complaints, Torres and Anderson arranged for multiple men to pay to have sex with Torres and with a minor, against the minor’s will, after they gave the minor drugs. Anderson has a jury trial scheduled to start next week, and Torres has a trial scheduled for April.
During the process of investigating the case, police searched Anderson’s phone and found several text conversations with a phone number that belonged to Lyle Christopher Scott Chapman, 36, of Cedar Rapids, according to a criminal complaint against Chapman.
The texts involved Chapman offering to purchase sex acts through Anderson and negotiating prices for specific inquiries. In an interview with Cedar Rapids Police officers he said he liked talking about arranging sex but denied every doing it, the complaint states.
A warrant for Chapman’s arrest was issued on Jan. 9, and he was arrested and charged with prostitution on Thursday. He was released from jail after posting a $3,000 bond.
