Ivan Rundall
Cedar Rapids
Ivan "Ike" Rundall, —Uncle Ike to many— 77, a man of enduring love, wisdom, and strength, passed away January 12th, 2025. Ivan will forever be remembered for his remarkable intellect, boundless curiosity, and deep appreciation for learning, as well as his unwavering love for his German Shepherd companions.
A cherished brother and uncle, Ivan was much more than family— he was a steadfast friend to our mom and a guiding presence in our lives. He embraced Becky, David, Jodi, Jill, and Jennifer with a father's love, and we were honored that he saw us as his children. Through every stage of our lives, he remained a constant source of support and love, staying connected no matter how far apart we lived. His infectious laugh and joyful smile would fill any room, whenever he saw any one of us. His warmth and unconditional love will forever be cherished.
Ivan was known for his signature lean figure and long ponytail, a reflection of his free spirit and unique presence. His service in the Vietnam War left a profound mark on him, shaping his lifelong quest for intellectual conversation and his passionate belief in questioning authority. He encouraged those around him to engage in politics, think critically, and embrace the power of knowledge to make informed decisions.
A skilled woodworker and proud craftsman, Ivan poured his creativity and dedication into renovating his home, built in 1923, making it a labor of love and a reflection of his talent. He was also deeply passionate about music, with an eclectic record collection that spoke of his appreciation for sound and rhythm. Ivan enjoyed playing guitar and sharing his musical journey with others.
His special touch with dogs, especially German Shepherds, was unparalleled. Jake, and later Willie, were his most treasured companions, each holding a unique place in his heart and his legacy. The bond between Ivan and his beloved shepherds was a testament to his gentle nature and capacity for unconditional love.
Ivan also had a passion for motorcycles, travel, and living as a free spirit, embracing the open road and the possibilities it offered. Whether riding through winding roads or gathering with family, his zest for life was contagious and inspiring.
He leaves behind countless memories of a life well-lived. Ivan will forever hold a place in our hearts as a proud, thoughtful, and loving soul.
Rest well, Uncle Ike.
We love you, Becky, David, Jodi, Jill, and Jennifer
