Wish list for upcoming Iowa legislative session

Here’s a wish list for the 2025 legislative session.
- Stop making life harder for Iowans.
- Stop interfering with health care professionals, teachers, and librarians. They know more about their professions than you do.
- Stop messing with the Area Education Agencies. Despite mass public outcry, they “reorganized” them anyway.
- Stop criminalizing abortions. Limiting reproductive health care sharply increases maternity and infant deaths. Plus, a clear majority of Iowans support abortions in all or most cases.
- Stop bullying LGBTQ+ people, especially the kids. EVERYONE deserves to be treated with dignity.
Instead, they should:
- Pass the “Work Without Worry” bill. This will help Iowans with disabilities work toward a more self-sufficient life.
- Do something — anything — to fix Iowa’s nursing home crisis. Keep our seniors safe.
- Pass the Seizure Safe Schools bill. Educators should know how to care for a student having a seizure.
- Do something — anything — to clean up Iowa’s polluted waterways.
- Revisit the 2024 CBD law. Iowans with intractable epilepsy rely on CBD to reduce their seizures. Do not criminalize people who need CBD for a better quality of life.
- Do something — anything — to reduce Iowa’s increasing cancer rate, the second highest in the nation.
- Fund our public schools at a level that keeps pace with inflation.
These measures would improve Iowans’ lives instead of making our lives harder.
Our legislators were not elected to serve a party or any one person. They were elected to serve the people. Listen to the people!
