John G. Eadie, 77, of Shueyville, Iowa, died Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Santa Rosa Hospital in New Braunfels, Texas. A visitation will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. January 17, 2025, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. January 18, 2025, at Hope Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, with Pastor Rhea Evanson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Shueyville Cemetery in Shueyville.
John was born September 26, 1947, in Waukon, Iowa, the son of Gilbert and Gladys (Sunderman) Eadie. He graduated from Waukon High School, Class of 1965 and went on to serve honorably in the United States Air Force. John was united in marriage to JoAnn Johanningmeier on June 29, 1968, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. He worked as an officer for the Cedar Rapids Police Department for over 30 years until his retirement. John was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church Men’s Group and Swisher American Legion. He was also a devoted volunteer for ReStore Habitat for Humanity and Olivet Neighborhood Mission. He enjoyed donating his time and extensive handyman talents. John will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, JoAnn Eadie of Swisher; son, Todd (Alyson) Eadie of Solon, Iowa; grandchildren, Morgan Eadie, Makenna Eadie, and Sarah Eadie, sisters, Karan LaBonne of Vancouver, Washington, and Elaine Ann Cooley Eadie of Waukon, Iowa; and daughter-in-law, Teresa Eadie of Marion, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Gladys Eadie; son, Trent John Eadie; sister, Jean Fish; and brothers-in-law, David LaBonne and Ronald Fish.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Swisher American Legion.
